Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Allison Beer, MSW, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, a certified EMDR therapist, and an IFS therapist. She specializes in supporting clients navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, and difficulties stemming from being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world. She offers individual counseling both in person and online across PA.

I’m a licensed clinical social worker who provides individual therapy for young adults and adults. I take a neurodiversity affirming, trauma informed approach, and my style is collaborative, down to earth, and nonjudgmental. I aim to create a space where you can show up as you are and feel genuinely understood.

I believe meaningful change happens through connection, and a strong therapeutic relationship is at the center of my work. My role is to support you in making sense of your experiences, gaining insight, and moving toward the kind of life you want. You might be dealing with anxiety, burnout, or the overwhelm of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world, including late diagnosed or suspected ADHD. It can feel exhausting to keep up with expectations while your own needs fall behind, leaving your mind racing and your body drained. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Therapy offers a space to slow down, untangle what you are carrying, and reconnect with yourself. I use EMDR and IFS to help process trauma and better understand your inner world so we can work toward lasting change. You deserve to feel more grounded and like yourself again. Background

My journey in mental health began in community mental health and hospital settings, where I supported individuals navigating addiction, crisis situations, and systemic barriers. I later spent several years working in victim services, supporting survivors of sexual assault—experiences that profoundly shaped my understanding of trauma and resilience.

Beyond my clinical work, I’ve lived in intentional communities around the world centered on mindfulness and yoga—experiences that continue to inform my holistic, person-centered approach to therapy with an emphasis on connection, resilience, and the mind-body relationship. I am also a mother of two little ones, and parenting has deeply shaped the clinician I am, strengthening my empathy, patience, and understanding of caregiving, identity, and nervous system regulation.

As a therapist, I focus on helping clients reconnect with themselves, build resilience, and move toward healing in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.

Specialties

I love supporting individuals who are navigating:

  • Anxiety & Depression
  • PTSD
  • Grief & Loss
  • Challenging life transitions
  • Relationship stressors
  • Parenting stressors
  • Low self-esteem
  • Experiences related to being neurodivergent (ADHD, Autistic, AuDHD, and more) in a world designed primarily for neurotypical minds

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a research-backed therapy that helps you understand and heal all parts of yourself. We all have parts—such as inner critics, perfectionists, planners, strivers, or people-pleasers. These parts aren’t bad; they’re doing their best to help or protect you, even if their strategies can sometimes feel frustrating or limiting.

Rather than pushing parts away, IFS invites curiosity and compassion. As an IFS therapist, I help you build deeper relationships with your parts, fostering healing, self-acceptance, and greater balance in your internal system and your life.

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

EMDR is an evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy that uses an eight-phase, structured approach to help the brain process distressing memories and reduce their emotional intensity. EMDR supports the nervous system in integrating past experiences so they feel less overwhelming in the present.

This process can lead to deep healing, increased resilience, and lasting relief from trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges—empowering you to move forward with greater ease and clarity.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy honors neurodivergence—including, but not limited to, Autism, ADHD, AuDHD, Dyslexia, and more—as a natural and valuable variation of human experience, not something to be fixed.

In this approach, the focus is on acceptance rather than change. Together, we work to understand your unique nervous system, support you in navigating challenges, and recognize your strengths. My goal is to help you build self-compassion and confidence, so you can show up fully as yourself in a world that often misunderstands or marginalizes neurodivergent identities.
