Traumatic Event
A traumatic event—such as an accident, assault, medical emergency, loss, witnessing harm, or other overwhelming experience—can leave lasting imprints on the nervous system, even in the days, months, or years after it’s “over.” Common responses include intrusive memories, sleep disruption, hypervigilance, numbness, avoidance, or shifts in beliefs about self, others, and safety.
Our practitioners are trained in evidence-based approaches for trauma, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems, IFS-Informed EMDR, somatic therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral approaches. Work begins with stabilization and building resources before processing, always at a pace that respects the client’s window of tolerance.
Recovery from traumatic events is genuinely possible. Many clients find that once memories have been processed and integrated, they carry them with less charge—and more capacity to live fully in the present.
