Sand Tray Therapy

Sand Tray Therapy is an expressive, nonverbal therapeutic approach that uses a shallow tray of sand and a wide array of miniature figures to help clients externalize inner experiences. Through arranging chosen objects in the tray, clients create scenes that often reveal feelings, conflicts, memories, and possibilities difficult to access through words alone.

Used with children, teens, adults, and families, sand tray bypasses much of the mental filtering that happens in traditional talk therapy. Clients often report that the process feels both playful and deeply meaningful—and that they come to understand something about themselves or their situation in a new way.

Our practitioners integrate sand tray into individual and family therapy to support work with trauma, grief, transitions, identity questions, and more. No artistic skill or prior experience is required; the tray simply becomes a mirror for the inner world.
