Family Art Therapy incorporates an art making task into the family sessions, which adds an additional dimension to treatment through the novel experience of creating art together. This empowers each member with the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings.
Families benefit from the process of working together, and learn about each other from the artwork they create. Both the experience and the outcome serve as a vehicle for change within the family system.
Barbra has conducted Family Art Therapy sessions for over 30 years. The experience of creating a project together offers each family member a voice to communicate their thoughts and feelings in a safe way. Once the task is completed, family members discuss their responses to the experience and to the artwork, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their family.
