Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapy approach, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, that recognizes and respects the complexity of each person’s inner world. Inner conflict between parts (often recognized as having competing beliefs and desires) is often at the root of anxiety, depression, indecisiveness, and dissatisfaction.

By listening deeply to all parts of self, we can have greater ease in our lives, greater compassion for ourselves, and less distress and reactivity. When we begin to understand our inner conflicts through the lens of IFS and parts, we develop an ability to see our struggles more clearly and with greater compassion.

In couples therapy, this lens leads to deeper understanding about habitual reactions and patterns and, ultimately, greater intimacy and connection.

Performance Enhancement with EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a potent intervention for healing those experiences of the past that create obstacles in the present day. EMDR is a powerful tool for performance enhancement, because it removes blocks to achievement and builds mental strengths and resources. Self-defeating behaviors, attitudes and beliefs can be modified and replaced with high-functioning behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs for positive, permanent change.

Practice-Building Coaching

Healthcare professionals often struggle with the idea that their private practice is a business that requires entrepreneurial skills to thrive. Business and practice-building skills are absent from academic programs, and practitioners are often uncomfortable with the idea of marketing their businesses. Practice-building coaching helps professionals discover new ideas for how they can spread the word about their work — and create opportunities for people seeking support to find and connect with them.

Elizabeth works one-on-one with practitioners to develop a personalized approach to practice-building that is sustainable over time.

Elizabeth helps professionals:

  • Evaluate how they would like to transform their practices;
  • Speak about their work with clarity and confidence;
  • Assess their marketing style;
  • Create a big picture marketing strategy to strengthen community awareness of their programs and services;
  • and Begin taking concrete, meaningful action steps to generate greater prosperity in their businesses.

Through my experience in private practice and my role as Founder of The Resiliency Center, I know what it takes to succeed in the business of private practice. I help professionals learn to view marketing as an extension of their work – based in principles of education, service, and relationship. I believe that one’s passion and skills offer the best guide for creating prosperity, and the only surefire way to grow a business is to have a clear vision and a solid plan.

EMDR

EMDR stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.” This counseling modality integrates elements of many effective therapy approaches—including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies—into structured protocols designed to maximize treatment success (see www.emdr.com for more information).

During EMDR, clients focus on past, present, and future experiences while simultaneously focusing on external, bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, sensory tappers, alternating sounds on earphones). Through this dual focus of attention and the entire protocol, people are able to process through upsetting memories and experiences that remain “stuck” and continue to create current-day emotional reactions despite previous counseling work.

EMDR is especially powerful in helping people alleviate symptoms of anxiety and in helping people who have experienced trauma (childhood abuse, witnessing violence and death, car accident, bullying, etc.). EMDR can also be very effective in enhancing feelings of confidence and unblocking motivation to make positive changes in one’s life.
